Our Story

Humble Beginnings
In 2005, Sanjay Deshmukh initiated a personal effort to offer food to pilgrims during the Pandharpur Wari serving 7000 people in the next 14 years

Expansion and Formalization
In 2018, Siddhesh Deshmukh expanded this initiative, transforming it into a full-fledged non-profit organization by founding Palkhi Yatra.

Growth and Improvement
The formalization helped remove bottlenecks present in the earlier initiative and allowed us to expand our reach dramatically to serve 13,000 people in the last 6 years.

Previously, pilgrims faced uncertainty about their food provision, not knowing who would provide meals or when they would receive them.

The yearly change in pilgrim groups allocated to us resulted in wasted resources and chaos due to lack of structure.

Since 2018, we've adopted a more focused and consistent approach. We now serve two specific villages: Uncha Khadak and Rumbhodi.

This allows for better planning, more efficient resource allocation, and improved communication with pilgrims.

We're looking forward to scaling this model and adopting more villages in the future.

While our primary goals remain centered on food, health, and community, we've expanded our focus to include:

- Efficient planning to avoid food waste.
- Streamlined operations to address the previously illegalized and uncertain nature of food service
- Improved organization and communication to overcome earlier challenges and anxiety of pilgrims.

We continue to refine our processes, always seeking ways to better serve the Warkaris and support the Pandharpur Wari tradition.

Serving

Purpose of Website

  • For the past 6 years, we have had the honour of serving food to Warkaris (pilgrim travellers) at Saswad.
  • Each year, we meet many individuals who express a desire to join us or contribute financially to this noble cause.
  • In response, we created this website to bridge that gap. Through this platform, we aim to gather voluntary donations which will be used to prepare, serve, and cater food to the Warkaris.
  • Your generosity will help us continue this cherished tradition and support the Warkaris on their spiritual journey.
