PALKHI  YATRA

Nourishing Pilgrims, Nurturing Traditions.

Pandharpur Wari

A centuries-old pilgrimage that embodies devotion, tradition, and community spirit.

The Palkhi Yatra is a pilgrimage procession that has been celebrated for over 700 years, beginning in the 13th century. It is closely associated with the Bhakti movement and saints like Sant Dnyaneshwar and Sant Tukaram.

The pilgrimage covers a distance of approximately 250 km starting from Pune and  ending at Pandharpur.

On average, around 1 million to 2 million people participate in the Palkhi procession each year. This number can vary based on several factors, including the weather, local conditions, and other logistical aspects, but it consistently attracts a large number of devotees from various parts of Maharashtra and beyond.

The Palkhi procession is a symbol of unity and equality, transcending social and economic barriers. People from different castes, communities, backgrounds and even religions come together to participate in the Wari for the spiritual walk.

The Pilgrim takes 21 days to reach its destination scheduled to arrive on the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi which typically takes place in the month of June or July

It is a spiritual journey to Lord Vithoba's temple in Pandharpur promoting equality, unity, and devotion and plays an important part of Maharashtra's cultural and religious heritage.

Making a Difference

  • Palkhi Yatra was founded to address critical issues like Hygienic Food and Water, Efficient Resource Management, Nutritional Support, Organized Distribution and Community Building which would ensure a smoother, healthier pilgrimage experience
  • We've served over 13,000 pilgrims in the last six years. Our efforts have not only improved the health and well-being of individual Warkaris but have also contributed to the smooth functioning and sustainability of this centuries-old tradition.
  • Palkhi Yatra is more than just a food service - it's a crucial support system that allows pilgrims to focus on their spiritual journey, free from concerns about basic necessities. By nourishing bodies, we help nurture souls, playing our part in preserving and enhancing this beautiful aspect of our cultural heritage.
